With all of the options students have for higher education today, it can be tough to choose which direction to take. College Factual has developed its “Most Well Attended Nursing Major in Connecticut” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.
In 2020-2021, 322,592 nursing students received their degree, making the major the 3rd most popular in the country. In 2019-2020, nursing graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $70,916 and had an average of $25,426 in loans still to pay off.
Across Connecticut, there were 3,064 nursing graduates with average earnings and debt of $87,747 and $26,131 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Well Attended Nursing Major in Connecticut” ranking, we looked at 22 colleges that offer a degree in nursing. To top this list, a school must have a successful nursing program that graduates more students in the field than other colleges that offer the same major.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Sacred Heart University. The school came in at #2 for the Most Well Attended Nursing Major in Connecticut. This medium-sized school is located in Fairfield, Connecticut, and it awarded 499 ’s nursing degrees in 2020-2021.
The school has an excellent freshman retention rate of 87%, which means students like the school well enough to return for a second year. The school has an impressive undergrad student loan default rate. It’s only 2.1%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%.
Out of the 22 schools in the Most Well Attended Nursing Major in Connecticut that were part of this year’s ranking, Quinnipiac University landed the #3 spot on the list. Quinnipiac is located in Hamden, Connecticut and, has a medium-sized student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 350 ’s nursing degrees to qualified students.
The school has an excellent freshman retention rate of 89%, which means students like the school well enough to return for a second year. The low undergrad student loan default rate of 2.3% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%. With a freshman retention rate of 93%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its undergraduate students.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Goodwin College. It ranked #5 on our 2023 Most Well Attended Nursing Major in Connecticut list. Goodwin College is a small private not-for-profit school situated in East Hartford, Connecticut. It awarded 304 ’s nursing degrees in 2020-2021.

Yale University ranked #9 on this year’s Most Well Attended Nursing Major in Connecticut list. Located in New Haven, Connecticut, this fairly large private not-for-profit school awarded 131 diplomas to qualified ’s nursing students in 2020-2021.
The undergrad student loan default rate at the school is 0.7%, which is quite low when compared to the national default rate of 10.1%. The undergraduate student-to-faculty ratio of 4 to 1 is a sign that students will have more opportunities to engage with their professors one-on-one.
With a ranking of #10, Capital Community College did quite well on the 2023 Most Well Attended Nursing Major in Connecticut list. Capital Community College is located in Hartford, Connecticut and, has a small student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 126 ’s nursing degrees to qualified students.
Naugatuck Valley Community College landed the #11 spot on the 2023 Most Well Attended Nursing Major in Connecticut ranking. Naugatuck Valley Community College is a small school located in Waterbury, Connecticut that handed out 117 ’s nursing degrees in 2020-2021.
