With 322,592 degrees handed out in 2020-2021, nursing is the 3rd most popular major in the United States. In 2019-2020, nursing graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $70,916 and had an average of $25,426 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southeast region, there were 77,470 nursing graduates with average earnings and debt of $67,632 and $24,151 respectively.

The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great nursing programs and a strong support system for veterans and active service members.

The school came in at #2 for the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Nursing for a Master’s. UAB is a large school located in Birmingham, Alabama that handed out 686 masters’s nursing degrees in 2020-2021.
UAB did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #11 on our “Best Nursing Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” list.According to our most recent data, University of Alabama at Birmingham supports 22,563 students, and 1,194 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 508 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients.
