University of Arizona tops the 2021 list of our schools in the Southwest Region that are best for non-traditional public health students. University of Arizona is a fairly large public school located in the city of Tucson. University of Arizona also made our Best Colleges for Public Health in the Southwest Region list, coming in at #2.
The student loan default rate at University of Arizona is lower than is typical, just 1.6% of students default in three years. Approximately 18,254 students take at least one class online at University of Arizona. 12,642 students are part time.
The University of Texas at Austin earned the #2 spot in our 2021 rankings. Located in the city of Austin, UT Austin is a public college with a very large student population. UT Austin did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #1 on our Best Colleges for Public Health in the Southwest Region list.
The student loan default rate at UT Austin is lower than is typical, just 0.8% of students default in three years. There are approximately 23,198 students at UT Austin that take at least one class online. About 3,479 of the students at UT Austin are attending part time.
Our rankings recognize Northern Arizona University as the #3 school in this year's rankings. NAU is a very large public school located in the city of Flagstaff. In addition to being on our best for non-traditional students list, NAU has also earned the #3 rank in our Best Colleges for Public Health in the Southwest Region ranking.
The school has a low student loan default rate of 1.7%. There are approximately 9,603 students at NAU that take at least one class online. 6,368 of NAU students are attending part time.
University of Central Oklahoma earned the #4 spot in our 2021 rankings. Located in the suburb of Edmond, UCO is a public college with a fairly large student population. In addition to being on our best for non-traditional students list, UCO has also earned the #4 rank in our Best Colleges for Public Health in the Southwest Region ranking.
The school has a low student loan default rate of 2.4%. Approximately 5,223 students take at least one class online at UCO. There are roughly 4,113 part time students in attendance at UCO.
Northeastern State University comes in at #5 in this year's ranking. NSU is a medium-sized public school located in the town of Tahlequah. NSU also made our Best Colleges for Public Health in the Southwest Region list, coming in at #8.

The University of Texas at San Antonio earned the #6 spot in our 2021 rankings. Located in the large city of San Antonio, UTSA is a public school with a very large student population. NMSU Main Campus is a fairly large public school located in the medium-sized suburb of Las Cruces. As a testament to the quality of education offered at NMSU Main Campus, the school also landed the #7 rank in our Best Colleges for Public Health in the Southwest Region ranking.
The school has a low student loan default rate of 3.9%. Approximately 7,734 students take at least one class online at NMSU Main Campus. About 3,478 of the students at NMSU Main Campus are attending part time.
