When it comes to choosing a college, veterans have a lot of options - but not all of them are good. College Factual has developed its “Most Veteran Friendly in the Rocky Mountains Region for Public Health” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.
Public Health is the 26th most popular major in the country with 40,596 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, public health graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $43,158 and had an average of $27,396 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Rocky Mountains region, there were 1,338 public health graduates with average earnings and debt of $44,293 and $23,469 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Rocky Mountains Region for Public Health” ranking, we looked at 17 colleges that offer a degree in public health. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great public health programs and a strong support system for veterans and active service members.
Some of the factors we look at when determining these rankings are overall quality of the public health program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran population. See our ranking methodology to learn more.

Out of the 17 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in the Rocky Mountains Region for Public Health that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Utah landed the #1 spot on the list. U of U is a large public school situated in Salt Lake City, Utah. It awarded 99 ’s public health degrees in 2020-2021.
U of U did well in our major quality rankings, too. Denver, Colorado is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s public health degrees to 192 students in 2020-2021.
CU Anschutz not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Among the 24,723 students enrolled at University of Colorado Denver/Anschutz Medical Campus, 1 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Boise State University landed the #6 spot on the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Rocky Mountains Region for Public Health ranking. Boise State is a large school located in Boise, Idaho that handed out 60 ’s public health degrees in 2020-2021.
Boise State not only placed well in this ranking. Idaho State University ranked #7 on this year’s Most Veteran Friendly in the Rocky Mountains Region for Public Health list. Idaho State University is located in Pocatello, Idaho and, has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 22 ’s public health degrees to qualified students.
In addition to being on our rocky mountains region vets studying public health list, ISU has also earned the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] rank in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.According to our most recent data, ISU supports 11,766 students, and 422 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 221 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $5,419. During this same period, 4 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. ISU does offer credit for military training for eligible students.

University of Wyoming did quite well in the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Rocky Mountains Region for Public Health ranking, coming in at #8. This fairly large school is located in Laramie, Wyoming, and it awarded 25 ’s public health degrees in 2020-2021.
UW did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Of the 11,829 students enrolled at University of Wyoming, 473 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 255 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $3,738. During this same period, 13 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. University of Wyoming does offer credit for military training for eligible students.

Montana Technological University did quite well in the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Rocky Mountains Region for Public Health ranking, coming in at #9. Montana Tech is a small public school situated in Butte, Montana. It awarded 55 ’s public health degrees in 2020-2021.
Montana Tech also took the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.According to our most recent data, Montana Technological University supports 1,650 students, and 117 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 60 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients.
