In 2020-2021, 32,731 people earned their degree in history, making the major the 23rd most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, history graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $30,467 and had an average of $23,587 in loans still to pay off.
Across the New England region, there were 3,039 history graduates with average earnings and debt of $33,757 and $23,624 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 2,363 history graduates with average earnings and debt of $42,403 and $25,944 respectively.

The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great history programs and a strong support system for veterans and active service members.

The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $10,026. During this same period, 11 students received scholarships through the Yellow Ribbon Program. UMass Dartmouth does offer credit for military training for eligible students.
