In 2020-2021, 32,731 people earned their degree in history, making the major the 23rd most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, history graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $30,467 and had an average of $23,587 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Far Western US region, there were 6,427 history graduates with average earnings and debt of $28,050 and $19,565 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Far Western US Region for History” ranking, we looked at 38 colleges that offer a degree in history. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent history programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.
Some of the factors we look at when determining these rankings are overall quality of the history program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran population. For more information, check out our ranking methodology.

Top 25 Best History Colleges for Veterans in the Far Western US Region
Out of the 38 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in the Far Western US Region for History that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Southern California landed the #1 spot on the list. Los Angeles, California is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out ’s history degrees to 90 students in 2020-2021.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at USC, the school also landed the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Of the 46,287 students enrolled at USC, 1,311 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data.
