When it comes to choosing a college, veterans have a lot of options - but not all of them are good. College Factual has developed its “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Legal Research” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.
In 2020-2021, 6,874 people earned their degree in legal research, making the major the 114th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, legal research graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $66,544 and had an average of $26,000 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southeast region, there were 1,083 legal research graduates with average earnings and debt of $64,135 and $25,000 respectively.
This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Legal Research” ranking looked at 17 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in legal research. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great legal research programs and a strong support system for veterans and active service members.
Some of the factors we look at when determining these rankings are overall quality of the legal research program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran population. For more information, check out our ranking methodology.

Out of the 17 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Legal Research that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Florida landed the #1 spot on the list. University of Florida is a large school located in Gainesville, Florida that handed out 92 ’s legal research degrees in 2020-2021.

UA is a public institution located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The school has a large population, and it awarded 34 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.

George Mason University landed the #6 spot on the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Legal Research ranking. Fairfax, Virginia is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s legal research degrees to 52 students in 2020-2021.

Stetson University ranked #8 on this year’s Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Legal Research list. Stetson is a private not-for-profit institution located in DeLand, Florida. The school has a small population, and it awarded 18 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.
