In 2020-2021, 5,696 people earned their degree in library and information science, making the major the 134th most popular in the United States.

The following schools top our list of the Best “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Library and Information Science for a Master’s”.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Oklahoma Norman Campus. It ranked #1 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Library and Information Science for a Master’s list. University of Oklahoma is located in Norman, Oklahoma and, has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 79 masters’s library and information science degrees to qualified students.
University of Oklahoma also made our “Best Library & Information Science Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region” list, coming in at #4.According to our most recent data, University of Oklahoma supports 27,772 students, and 12 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 10 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $3,720. In addition to receiving other benefits, 0 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. University of Arizona is a large public school situated in Tucson, Arizona. It awarded 73 masters’s library and information science degrees in 2020-2021.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at University of Arizona, the school also landed the #3 spot in our “Best Library & Information Science Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region” ranking.Our most recent data shows that 2,131 of the 45,601 students enrolled at University of Arizona were GI Bill® students, of which 1,478 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $8,880. During this same period, 31 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Texas Woman’s University. The school came in at #3 for the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Library and Information Science for a Master’s. Texas Woman’s University is a fairly large public school situated in Denton, Texas. It awarded 238 masters’s library and information science degrees in 2020-2021.
TWU not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #1 on our “Best Library & Information Science Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region” list.Our most recent data shows that 495 of the 16,433 students enrolled at TWU were GI Bill® students, of which 251 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $5,466. On top of their other funding sources, 0 students received scholarships through the Yellow Ribbon Program. TWU offers credit for military training for eligible students.

Out of the 7 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Library and Information Science for a Master’s that were part of this year’s ranking, University of North Texas landed the #4 spot on the list. Located in Denton, Texas, this large public school awarded 252 degrees to qualified masters’s library and information science students in 2020-2021.
UNT did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #2 on our “Best Library & Information Science Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region” list.Of the 40,953 students enrolled at University of North Texas, 2,038 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 1,138 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $9,999. On top of their other funding sources, 0 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.
The school has an excellent freshman retention rate of 85%, which means students like the school well enough to return for a second year.

The school came in at #5 for the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Library and Information Science for a Master’s. Located in Huntsville, Texas, this large public school handed out 66 diplomas to qualified masters’s library and information science students in 2020-2021.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at SHSU, the school also landed the #5 spot in our “Best Library & Information Science Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region” ranking.According to our most recent data, SHSU supports 21,912 students, and 1,092 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 496 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $6,097. On top of their other funding sources, 0 students received scholarships through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.

Texas A&M University - Commerce landed the #6 spot on the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Library and Information Science for a Master’s ranking. Commerce, Texas is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out masters’s library and information science degrees to 54 students in 2020-2021.
Texas A&M Commerce did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #6 on our “Best Library & Information Science Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region” list.Of the 12,249 students enrolled at Texas A&M University - Commerce, 594 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 337 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $5,401. During this same period, 0 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Texas A&M University - Commerce does offer credit for military training for eligible students.

Northeastern State University came in at #7 in this year’s edition of the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Library and Information Science for a Master’s ranking. NSU is a public institution located in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The school has a medium-sized population, and it awarded 13 masters’s degrees in 2020-2021.
In addition to being on our southwest region master’s degree vets studying library and information science list, NSU has also earned the #7 rank in our “Best Library & Information Science Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region” ranking.Of the 7,349 students enrolled at NSU, 304 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 118 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $3,801. In addition to receiving other benefits, 1 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. NSU does offer credit for military training for eligible students.
The school has an impressive undergrad student loan default rate. It’s only [DEFAULT_RATE_STRING]%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%.
