With all of the options veterans have for higher education today, it can be tough to choose which direction to take. College Factual was founded, in part, to help students make the decision as to what would be the best school for them. Our “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Library and Information Science” ranking is part of that endeavor.
In 2020-2021, 5,696 people earned their degree in library and information science, making the major the 134th most popular in the United States.
Across the Southeast region, there were 1,307 library and information science graduates with average earnings and debt of $0 and $0 respectively.
This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Library and Information Science” ranking looked at 13 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in library and information science. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality library and information science programs as well as strong veteran support.
Some of the factors we look at when determining these rankings are overall quality of the library and information science program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran population. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

The school came in at #1 for the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Library and Information Science. This large school is located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and it awarded 54 ’s library and information science degrees in 2020-2021.
UNC Chapel Hill did well in our major quality rankings, too. The school has a large population, and it awarded 121 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.

UT Knoxville is a large public school situated in Knoxville, Tennessee. It awarded 106 ’s library and information science degrees in 2020-2021.
UT Knoxville also took the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Our most recent data shows that 1,122 of the 30,559 students enrolled at UT Knoxville were GI Bill® students, of which 739 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The University of Alabama came in at #7 in this year’s edition of the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Library and Information Science ranking. Tuscaloosa, Alabama is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s library and information science degrees to 80 students in 2020-2021.
UA did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Among the 37,840 students enrolled at The University of Alabama, 2,081 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. With a ranking of #8, University of South Florida - Main Campus did quite well on the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Library and Information Science list. Located in Tampa, Florida, this large public school handed out 98 diplomas to qualified ’s library and information science students in 2020-2021.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at USF Tampa, the school also landed the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.According to our most recent data, USF Tampa supports 50,626 students, and 2,211 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 1,241 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients.
