For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Applied Math for a Master’s” ranking, we looked at 10 colleges that offer a degree in applied mathematics. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality applied mathematics programs as well as strong veteran support.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It ranked #1 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Applied Math for a Master’s list. Massachusetts Institute of Technology is a fairly large school located in Cambridge, Massachusetts that handed out 75 masters’s applied math degrees in 2020-2021.

MIT did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #1 on our “Best Applied Mathematics Master’s Degree Schools in the New England Region” list.According to our most recent data, MIT supports 11,254 students, and 129 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 38 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $17,024. In addition to receiving other benefits, 32 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. MIT does offer credit for military training for eligible students.

The undergraduate student-to-faculty ratio of 3 to 1 is a sign that students will have more opportunities to engage with their professors one-on-one. The school has an excellent freshman retention rate of 98%, which means students like the school well enough to return for a second year. Out of the 10 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Applied Math for a Master’s that were part of this year’s ranking, Brown University landed the #2 spot on the list. Brown University is located in Providence, Rhode Island and, has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 12 masters’s applied math degrees to qualified students.

Brown did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #2 on our “Best Applied Mathematics Master’s Degree Schools in the New England Region” list.According to our most recent data, Brown University supports 9,948 students, and 98 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 19 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. In addition to being on our new england region master’s degree vets studying applied math list, Boston College has also earned the #3 rank in our “Best Applied Mathematics Master’s Degree Schools in the New England Region” ranking.Of the 14,934 students enrolled at Boston College, 170 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 100 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $17,142. During this same period, 64 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Boston College does offer credit for military training for eligible students.

University of New Hampshire - Main Campus ranked #6 on this year’s Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Applied Math for a Master’s list. Located in Durham, New Hampshire, this fairly large public school awarded 13 diplomas to qualified masters’s applied math students in 2020-2021.

UNH also took the #10 spot in our “Best Applied Mathematics Master’s Degree Schools in the New England Region” ranking.Our most recent data shows that 37 of the 14,348 students enrolled at University of New Hampshire - Main Campus were GI Bill® students, of which 24 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. University of Massachusetts Amherst is located in Amherst, Massachusetts and, has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 25 masters’s applied math degrees to qualified students.

UMass Amherst not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #9 on our “Best Applied Mathematics Master’s Degree Schools in the New England Region” list.Our most recent data shows that 477 of the 31,642 students enrolled at UMass Amherst were GI Bill® students, of which 252 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients.
