When pursuing a degree in today’s world, veterans have many different options to choose from. Our “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for HVACR” ranking is one tool we have developed to help in this regard.
In 2020-2021, 19,594 people earned their degree in heating, air conditioning, ventilation and refrigeration, making the major the 192nd most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, heating, air conditioning, ventilation and refrigeration graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $32,998 and had an average of $11,353 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southwest region, there were 2,684 heating, air conditioning, ventilation and refrigeration graduates with average earnings and debt of $31,352 and $11,717 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for HVACR” ranking, we looked at 12 colleges that offer a degree in heating, air conditioning, ventilation and refrigeration. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent heating, air conditioning, ventilation and refrigeration programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.
Some of the factors we look at when determining these rankings are overall quality of the heating, air conditioning, ventilation and refrigeration program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran population. For more information, check out our ranking methodology.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology. The school came in at #1 for the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for HVACR. Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology is located in Okmulgee, Oklahoma and, has a small student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 38 ’s HVACR degrees to qualified students.
OSU Institute of Technology not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Of the 2,349 students enrolled at OSU Institute of Technology, 174 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of the 12 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for HVACR that were part of this year’s ranking, Lone Star College System landed the #2 spot on the list. This large school is located in The Woodlands, Texas, and it awarded 286 ’s HVACR degrees in 2020-2021.
North Harris Montgomery also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].Of the 70,109 students enrolled at North Harris Montgomery, 1,932 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 1,202 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $2,042. Located in Pasadena, Texas, this large public school awarded 63 diplomas to qualified ’s HVACR students in 2020-2021.

Tyler Junior College is located in Tyler, Texas and, has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 49 ’s HVACR degrees to qualified students.

With a ranking of #6, Central New Mexico Community College did quite well on the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for HVACR list. CNM is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico and, has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 27 ’s HVACR degrees to qualified students.

South Plains College landed the #9 spot on the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for HVACR ranking. Located in Levelland, Texas, this medium-sized public school awarded 12 diplomas to qualified ’s HVACR students in 2020-2021.

Las Cruces, New Mexico is the setting for this medium-sized institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s HVACR degrees to 36 students in 2020-2021.
In addition to being on our southwest region vets studying hvacr list, NMSU Dona Ana has also earned the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] rank in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Of the 7,028 students enrolled at NMSU Dona Ana, 288 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data.
