Our “Most Veteran Friendly for Data Science” ranking is one tool we have developed to help in this regard.
In 2020-2021, 541 people earned their degree in data science, making the major the 282nd most popular in the United States.
This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly for Data Science” ranking looked at 14 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in data science. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent data science programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.
Some of the factors we look at when determining these rankings are overall quality of the data science program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran population. See our ranking methodology to learn more.

In addition to being on our vets studying data science list, Colorado State has also earned the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] rank in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Among the 32,428 students enrolled at Colorado State, 1,606 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. University of Vermont ranked #6 on this year’s Most Veteran Friendly for Data Science list. This fairly large school is located in Burlington, Vermont, and it awarded 10 ’s data science degrees in 2020-2021.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at UVM, the school also landed the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Of the 13,292 students enrolled at UVM, 218 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 142 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $10,767. During this same period, 19 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. UVM offers credit for military training for eligible students.
