This means that colleges and universities in the state were responsible for awarding 22.5% of all the international studies bachelor's degrees in the country.

University of California - San Diego tops the 2021 list of our schools in California that are best for non-traditional international studies students. UCSD is a very large public school located in the city of La Jolla. UCSD did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #1 on our Best Colleges for International Studies in California list.
The student loan default rate at UCSD is lower than is typical, just 0.6% of students default in three years. Approximately 21,222 students take at least one class online at UCSD. There are roughly 1,605 part time students in attendance at UCSD.
The #2 spot in this year's ranking belongs to Pepperdine University. Pepperdine is a large private not-for-profit school located in the large suburb of Malibu. As a testament to the quality of education offered at Pepperdine, the school also landed the #2 rank in our Best Colleges for International Studies in California ranking.
About 0.6% of Pepperdine students default on their loans in three years, which is lower than average. 3,015 students at Pepperdine are exclusively online. There are roughly 4,069 part time students in attendance at Pepperdine.
University of California - Santa Barbara comes in at #3 in this year's ranking. Located in the medium-sized suburb of Santa Barbara, UCSB is a public school with a fairly large student population. In addition to being on our best for non-traditional students list, UCSB has also earned the #3 rank in our Best Colleges for International Studies in California ranking.
About 0.5% of UCSB students default on their loans in three years, which is lower than average. Approximately 3,596 students take at least one class online at UCSB. About 880 of the students at UCSB are attending part time.
Our rankings recognize University of California - Irvine as the #4 school in this year's rankings. Located in the large city of Irvine, UC Irvine is a public school with a fairly large student population. Located in the city of Riverside, UCR is a public school with a fairly large student population.
