In 2020-2021, 2,233 people earned their degree in forestry, making the major the 189th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, forestry graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $38,829 and had an average of $21,444 in loans still to pay off.
At the associate degree level specifically, there were 383 forestry graduates with average earnings and debt of $35,806 and $19,336 respectively.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. It ranked #1 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly for Forestry for an Associate list. Syracuse, New York is the setting for this small institution of higher learning. The public school handed out associates’s forestry degrees to 27 students in 2020-2021.
ESF also took the #1 spot in our “Best Forestry Associate Degree Schools” ranking.According to our most recent data, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry supports 2,127 students, and 42 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 16 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $4,672. On top of their other funding sources, 0 students received scholarships through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Hocking College did quite well in the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly for Forestry for an Associate ranking, coming in at #6. Hocking Technical College is a small school located in Nelsonville, Ohio that handed out 8 associates’s forestry degrees in 2020-2021.
