Forestry is the 189th most popular major in the country with 2,233 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, forestry graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $38,829 and had an average of $21,444 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Rocky Mountains region, there were 133 forestry graduates with average earnings and debt of $36,863 and $23,233 respectively.
This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Rocky Mountains Region for Forestry” ranking looked at 4 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in forestry. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality forestry programs as well as strong veteran support.

The school came in at #1 for the Most Veteran Friendly in the Rocky Mountains Region for Forestry. Colorado State University - Fort Collins is a large school located in Fort Collins, Colorado that handed out 46 ’s forestry degrees in 2020-2021.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at Colorado State, the school also landed the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Among the 32,428 students enrolled at Colorado State University - Fort Collins, 1,606 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. University of Idaho is located in Moscow, Idaho and, has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 43 ’s forestry degrees to qualified students.
In addition to being on our rocky mountains region vets studying forestry list, U of I has also earned the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] rank in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Our most recent data shows that 382 of the 10,791 students enrolled at U of I were GI Bill® students, of which 248 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $6,784. To help with additional expenses, 29 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. U of I does offer credit for military training for eligible students.
The low undergrad student loan default rate of [DEFAULT_RATE_STRING]% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%.
