When it comes to choosing a college, veterans have a lot of options - but not all of them are good. One of our goals at College Factual is to give you as much information as we can - such as our “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Parks & Rec” ranking - to help you make that decision.
In 2020-2021, 3,106 people earned their degree in parks, recreation and leisure studies, making the major the 218th most popular in the United States.
Across the Southeast region, there were 568 parks, recreation and leisure studies graduates with average earnings and debt of $0 and $0 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Parks & Rec” ranking, we looked at 15 colleges that offer a degree in parks, recreation and leisure studies. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent parks, recreation and leisure studies programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.
Some of the factors we look at when determining these rankings are overall quality of the parks, recreation and leisure studies program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran population. For more information, check out our ranking methodology.

Top 15 Best Parks, Recreation & Leisure Studies Colleges for Veterans in the Southeast Region
Out of the 15 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Parks & Rec that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Arkansas landed the #1 spot on the list. University of Arkansas is a large public school situated in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It awarded 77 ’s parks and rec degrees in 2020-2021.
UARK also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].According to our most recent data, UARK supports 27,562 students, and 11 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 11 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $4,975. During this same period, 0 students received scholarships through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Students may be able to receive credit for their military training, depending on their background.

East Carolina University is a large school located in Greenville, North Carolina that handed out 37 ’s parks and rec degrees in 2020-2021.

In 2020-2021, this school awarded 64 ’s parks and rec degrees to qualified students.

Out of that number, 411 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $7,549. To help with additional expenses, 11 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. USA does offer credit for military training for eligible students.
