When pursuing a degree in today’s world, veterans have many different options to choose from. Our mission at College Factual is to arm you with as much information as we can to help you make that decision. Our “Most Veteran Friendly in Oklahoma for Parks & Rec” ranking is one tool we have developed to help in this regard.
In 2020-2021, 73,813 people earned their degree in parks, recreation, leisure, and fitness studies, making the major the 15th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, parks, recreation, leisure, and fitness studies graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $31,423 and had an average of $24,388 in loans still to pay off.
Across Oklahoma, there were 1,215 parks, recreation, leisure, and fitness studies graduates with average earnings and debt of $31,830 and $23,136 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in Oklahoma for Parks & Rec” ranking, we looked at 13 colleges that offer a degree in parks, recreation, leisure, and fitness studies. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great parks, recreation, leisure, and fitness studies programs and a strong support system for veterans and active service members.
When determining these rankings, we looked at things such as overall quality of the parks, recreation, leisure, and fitness studies program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran satisfaction. For more information, check out our ranking methodology.

Top 13 Best Parks, Recreation, Leisure, & Fitness Studies Colleges for Veterans in Oklahoma
Out of the 13 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in Oklahoma for Parks & Rec that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Oklahoma Norman Campus landed the #1 spot on the list. University of Oklahoma Norman Campus is a large school located in Norman, Oklahoma that handed out 173 ’s parks and rec degrees in 2020-2021.
University of Oklahoma did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Our most recent data shows that 12 of the 27,772 students enrolled at University of Oklahoma Norman Campus were GI Bill® students, of which 10 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $3,720. During this same period, 0 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. University of Oklahoma Norman Campus does offer credit for military training for eligible students.
The school has an impressive undergrad student loan default rate. It’s only [DEFAULT_RATE_STRING]%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%. The school has an excellent freshman retention rate of 87%, which means students like the school well enough to return for a second year.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Oklahoma State University - Main Campus. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in Oklahoma for Parks & Rec list. OSU is located in Stillwater, Oklahoma and, has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 131 ’s parks and rec degrees to qualified students.
OSU not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Of the 24,535 students enrolled at Oklahoma State University - Main Campus, 1,038 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 439 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $7,226. On top of their other funding sources, 39 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Oklahoma State University - Main Campus offers credit for military training for eligible students.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Southern Nazarene University. It ranked #3 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in Oklahoma for Parks & Rec list. Southern Nazarene University is a small school located in Bethany, Oklahoma that handed out 43 ’s parks and rec degrees in 2020-2021.
SNU did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Among the 2,208 students enrolled at Southern Nazarene University, 311 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 209 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $6,616. In addition to receiving other benefits, 3 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Students may be able to receive credit for their military training, depending on their background.
The low undergrad student loan default rate of [DEFAULT_RATE_STRING]% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%.

Out of the 13 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in Oklahoma for Parks & Rec that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Central Oklahoma landed the #4 spot on the list. This fairly large school is located in Edmond, Oklahoma, and it awarded 92 ’s parks and rec degrees in 2020-2021.
UCO did well in our major quality rankings, too. Durant, Oklahoma is the setting for this medium-sized institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s parks and rec degrees to 187 students in 2020-2021.

Tulsa, Oklahoma is the setting for this small institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out ’s parks and rec degrees to 57 students in 2020-2021.

University of Tulsa did quite well in the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in Oklahoma for Parks & Rec ranking, coming in at #10. University of Tulsa is a private not-for-profit institution located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The school has a small population, and it awarded 32 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.
University of Tulsa also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].According to our most recent data, University of Tulsa supports 3,960 students, and 119 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 62 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients.
