In 2020-2021, 107,895 people earned their degree in cosmetology, making the major the 226th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, cosmetology graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $17,007 and had an average of $10,898 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southwest region, there were 15,959 cosmetology graduates with average earnings and debt of $16,270 and $10,335 respectively.
This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Cosmetology” ranking looked at 8 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in cosmetology. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent cosmetology programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.

Top 8 Best Cosmetology Colleges for Veterans in the Southwest Region
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Houston Community College. The school came in at #1 for the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Cosmetology. This large school is located in Houston, Texas, and it awarded 130 ’s cosmetology degrees in 2020-2021.
Houston Community College did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Our most recent data shows that 1,421 of the 48,329 students enrolled at Houston Community College were GI Bill® students, of which 783 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. Out of the 8 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Cosmetology that were part of this year’s ranking, Central New Mexico Community College landed the #2 spot on the list. Located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, this fairly large public school awarded 34 diplomas to qualified ’s cosmetology students in 2020-2021.
In addition to being on our southwest region vets studying cosmetology list, CNM has also earned the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] rank in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Our most recent data shows that 839 of the 21,398 students enrolled at Central New Mexico Community College were GI Bill® students, of which 390 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $1,171. In addition to receiving other benefits, 0 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Central New Mexico Community College offers credit for military training for eligible students.

San Jacinto Community College is a public institution located in Pasadena, Texas. The school has a large population, and it awarded 193 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.
San Jacinto College not only placed well in this ranking. Located in The Woodlands, Texas, this large public school awarded 83 degrees to qualified ’s cosmetology students in 2020-2021.
North Harris Montgomery not only placed well in this ranking. Houston, Texas is the setting for this small institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out ’s cosmetology degrees to 11 students in 2020-2021.
