In 2020-2021, 21,239 people earned their degree in chemistry, making the major the 51st most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, chemistry graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $40,656 and had an average of $22,680 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Great Lakes region, there were 3,288 chemistry graduates with average earnings and debt of $44,907 and $23,656 respectively.

This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Chemistry” ranking looked at 42 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in chemistry. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great chemistry programs and a strong support system for veterans and active service members.
