In 2020-2021, 13,674 people earned their degree in physics, making the major the 68th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, physics graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $42,960 and had an average of $22,756 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Rocky Mountains region, there were 609 physics graduates with average earnings and debt of $38,521 and $23,082 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 436 physics graduates with average earnings and debt of $40,089 and $26,296 respectively.

Boulder, Colorado is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out bachelors’s physics degrees to 94 students in 2020-2021.

CU - Boulder not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #1 on our “Best Physics Bachelor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region” list.Our most recent data shows that 1,379 of the 37,437 students enrolled at CU - Boulder were GI Bill® students, of which 968 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. This large school is located in Salt Lake City, Utah, and it awarded 33 bachelors’s physics degrees in 2020-2021.

This large school is located in Fort Collins, Colorado, and it awarded 18 bachelors’s physics degrees in 2020-2021.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Wyoming. It ranked #4 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Rocky Mountains Region for Physics for a Bachelor’s list. This fairly large school is located in Laramie, Wyoming, and it awarded 12 bachelors’s physics degrees in 2020-2021.

UW also made our “Best Physics Bachelor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region” list, coming in at #4.According to our most recent data, University of Wyoming supports 11,829 students, and 473 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 255 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. U of I also took the #7 spot in our “Best Physics Bachelor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region” ranking.Of the 10,791 students enrolled at University of Idaho, 382 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 248 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $6,784. With a ranking of #8, Brigham Young University - Provo did quite well on the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Rocky Mountains Region for Physics for a Bachelor’s list. BYU is a large private not-for-profit school situated in Provo, Utah. It awarded 50 bachelors’s physics degrees in 2020-2021.

BYU did well in our major quality rankings, too.
