With all of the options veterans have for higher education today, it can be tough to choose which direction to take. Our “Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Criminal Justice” ranking is part of that endeavor.
In 2020-2021, 113,121 criminal justice and corrections students received their degree, making the major the 7th most popular in the country. In 2019-2020, criminal justice and corrections graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $35,465 and had an average of $25,425 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Great Lakes region, there were 13,463 criminal justice and corrections graduates with average earnings and debt of $36,578 and $23,701 respectively.
This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Criminal Justice” ranking looked at 129 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in criminal justice and corrections. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent criminal justice and corrections programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Xavier University. It ranked #1 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Criminal Justice list. This medium-sized school is located in Cincinnati, Ohio, and it awarded 62 ’s criminal justice degrees in 2020-2021.
Xavier did well in our major quality rankings, too. With a ranking of #24, Ohio Northern University did quite well on the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Criminal Justice list. Located in Ada, Ohio, this small private not-for-profit school handed out 14 degrees to qualified ’s criminal justice students in 2020-2021.

Out of that number, 29 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $16,983. To help with additional expenses, 5 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.
