In 2020-2021, 13,766 people earned their degree in fire protection, making the major the 118th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, fire protection graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $53,963 and had an average of $19,479 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Far Western US region, there were 4,220 fire protection graduates with average earnings and debt of $41,712 and $12,583 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Far Western US Region for Fire Protection” ranking, we looked at 19 colleges that offer a degree in fire protection. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality fire protection programs as well as strong veteran support.

Located in Fairbanks, Alaska, this medium-sized public school awarded 14 diplomas to qualified ’s fire protection students in 2020-2021.
