Fire Protection is the 118th most popular major in the country with 13,766 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, fire protection graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $53,963 and had an average of $19,479 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southwest region, there were 1,477 fire protection graduates with average earnings and debt of $43,092 and $9,988 respectively.
This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Fire Protection” ranking looked at 20 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in fire protection. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great fire protection programs and a strong support system for veterans and active service members.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Oklahoma State University - Main Campus. It ranked #1 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Fire Protection list. This large school is located in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and it awarded 16 ’s fire protection degrees in 2020-2021.
OSU not only placed well in this ranking. With a freshman retention rate of 85%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its undergraduate students.
