When it comes to choosing a college, veterans have a lot of options - but not all of them are good. Our mission at College Factual is to arm you with as much information as we can to help you make that decision. Our “Most Veteran Friendly in Massachusetts for Social Work” ranking is one tool we have developed to help in this regard.
In 2020-2021, 58,326 people earned their degree in social work, making the major the 13th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, social work graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $37,651 and had an average of $26,679 in loans still to pay off.
Across Massachusetts, there were 2,165 social work graduates with average earnings and debt of $42,127 and $25,923 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in Massachusetts for Social Work” ranking, we looked at 13 colleges that offer a degree in social work. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent social work programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.
When determining these rankings, we looked at things such as overall quality of the social work program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran satisfaction. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

Out of the 13 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in Massachusetts for Social Work that were part of this year’s ranking, Boston University landed the #1 spot on the list. This large school is located in Boston, Massachusetts, and it awarded 324 ’s social work degrees in 2020-2021.
Boston U also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].Among the 32,718 students enrolled at Boston University, 15 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Boston College. The school came in at #2 for the Most Veteran Friendly in Massachusetts for Social Work. Boston College is located in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts and, has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 273 ’s social work degrees to qualified students.
Boston College also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].Among the 14,934 students enrolled at Boston College, 170 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. University of Massachusetts - Boston is a public institution located in Boston, Massachusetts. The school has a fairly large population, and it awarded 49 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.
UMass Boston did well in our major quality rankings, too.
