Students have lots of options to chooose from today when trying to decide which college to attend. College Factual has developed its “Most Well Attended Dance Major in the Southwest Region” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.
In 2020-2021, 3,288 people earned their degree in dance, making the major the 158th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, dance graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $22,085 and had an average of $24,389 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southwest region, there were 413 dance graduates with average earnings and debt of $24,261 and $22,876 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Well Attended Dance Major in the Southwest Region” ranking, we looked at 40 colleges that offer a degree in dance. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have one of the most popular dance programs in the United States.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Texas State University. It ranked #1 on our 2023 Most Well Attended Dance Major in the Southwest Region list. Texas State University is a large public school situated in San Marcos, Texas. It awarded 45 ’s dance degrees in 2020-2021.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Arizona. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Most Well Attended Dance Major in the Southwest Region list. Tucson, Arizona is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s dance degrees to 39 students in 2020-2021.
The school has an excellent freshman retention rate of 85%, which means students like the school well enough to return for a second year.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Texas Woman’s University. It ranked #3 on our 2023 Most Well Attended Dance Major in the Southwest Region list. Denton, Texas is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s dance degrees to 38 students in 2020-2021.
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Oklahoma City University. The school came in at #4 for the Most Well Attended Dance Major in the Southwest Region. Located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, this small private not-for-profit school handed out 32 diplomas to qualified ’s dance students in 2020-2021.
The impressive undergraduate student-to-faculty ratio of 10 to 1 means that students may have more opportunities to work more closely with their professors than they would at other schools. The undergrad student loan default rate at the school is 2.6%, which is quite low when compared to the national default rate of 10.1%.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Arizona State University - Tempe. It ranked #5 on our 2023 Most Well Attended Dance Major in the Southwest Region list. ASU - Tempe is a large public school situated in Tempe, Arizona. It awarded 25 ’s dance degrees in 2020-2021.
The school has an impressive undergrad student loan default rate. It’s only 4.5%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%. The school has an excellent freshman retention rate of 86%, which means students like the school well enough to return for a second year.
With a ranking of #6, Sam Houston State University did quite well on the 2023 Most Well Attended Dance Major in the Southwest Region list. SHSU is a large school located in Huntsville, Texas that handed out 22 ’s dance degrees in 2020-2021.
