It’s not easy to decide which college to attend when there so many options available for veterans. College Factual has developed its “Most Veteran Friendly for Design for an Associate” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.
Design & Applied Arts is the 36th most popular major in the country with 36,301 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, design and applied arts graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $31,426 and had an average of $25,481 in loans still to pay off.
At the associate degree level specifically, there were 8,050 design and applied arts graduates with average earnings and debt of $35,806 and $19,336 respectively.
This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly for Design for an Associate” ranking analyzed 95 colleges that offered a degree in design and applied arts. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent design and applied arts programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.
Some of the factors we look at when determining these rankings are overall quality of the design and applied arts program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran population. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

Out of the 95 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly for Design for an Associate that were part of this year’s ranking, The New School landed the #1 spot on the list. The New School is a fairly large private not-for-profit school situated in New York, New York. It awarded 128 associates’s design degrees in 2020-2021.
New School University did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #1 on our “Best Design & Applied Arts Associate Degree Schools” list.Our most recent data shows that 117 of the 9,047 students enrolled at New School University were GI Bill® students, of which 69 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Rochester Institute of Technology. The school came in at #2 for the Most Veteran Friendly for Design for an Associate. Rochester, New York is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out associates’s design degrees to 12 students in 2020-2021.
RIT also took the #6 spot in our “Best Design & Applied Arts Associate Degree Schools” ranking.Our most recent data shows that 1 of the 16,158 students enrolled at Rochester Institute of Technology were GI Bill® students, of which 1 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients.
