Design & Applied Arts is the 36th most popular major in the country with 36,301 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, design and applied arts graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $31,426 and had an average of $25,481 in loans still to pay off.
Across Maryland, there were 663 design and applied arts graduates with average earnings and debt of $36,735 and $26,625 respectively.
This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in Maryland for Design” ranking looked at 5 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in design and applied arts. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent design and applied arts programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.

Top 5 Best Design & Applied Arts Colleges for Veterans in Maryland
Out of the 5 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in Maryland for Design that were part of this year’s ranking, Stevenson University landed the #1 spot on the list. Located in Stevenson, Maryland, this small private not-for-profit school awarded 18 degrees to qualified ’s design students in 2020-2021.
In addition to being on our maryland vets studying design list, Stevenson has also earned the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] rank in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.According to our most recent data, Stevenson University supports 3,492 students, and 125 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 65 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $6,525. In addition to receiving other benefits, 40 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Maryland Institute College of Art is located in Baltimore, Maryland and, has a small student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 334 ’s design degrees to qualified students.
MICA also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].Among the 1,892 students enrolled at MICA, 66 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 45 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $23,802. On top of their other funding sources, 29 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program.

University of Maryland - Baltimore County is located in Baltimore, Maryland and, has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 22 ’s design degrees to qualified students.
UMBC did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Our most recent data shows that 53 of the 13,497 students enrolled at UMBC were GI Bill® students, of which 30 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients.
