When pursuing a degree in today’s world, veterans have many different options to choose from. In 2020-2021, 149,215 visual and performing arts students received their degree, making the major the 10th most popular in the country. In 2019-2020, visual and performing arts graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $26,700 and had an average of $25,051 in loans still to pay off.
Across Virginia, there were 3,630 visual and performing arts graduates with average earnings and debt of $26,234 and $25,261 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 2,570 visual and performing arts graduates with average earnings and debt of $39,553 and $27,844 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in Virginia for Visual & Performing Arts for a Bachelor’s” ranking, we looked at 13 colleges that offer a degree in visual and performing arts. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent visual and performing arts programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.
To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as veteran satisfaction, veteran affordability, and overall quality of the visual and performing arts program at the school. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

Fairfax, Virginia is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out bachelors’s visual and performing arts degrees to 254 students in 2020-2021.
GMU also took the #6 spot in our “Best Visual & Performing Arts Bachelor’s Degree Schools in Virginia” ranking.According to our most recent data, George Mason University supports 38,541 students, and 2,334 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 1,583 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $10,710. On top of their other funding sources, 42 students received scholarships through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Located in Blacksburg, Virginia, this large public school awarded 167 diplomas to qualified bachelors’s visual and performing arts students in 2020-2021.
Virginia Tech also made our “Best Visual & Performing Arts Bachelor’s Degree Schools in Virginia” list, coming in at #3.Of the 37,024 students enrolled at Virginia Tech, 119 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data.
