One measure we use to determine the quality of a school is to look at the average salary of master's graduates during the early years of their career. While master's degree recipients from schools in Texas earn an average starting salary of $57,376, those from the top 25 school on this list made an average of $58,210.

The average debt load at a particular school may not be bad, but it's an important thing to consider in conjunction with post-graduation earnings.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend The University of Texas at Austin. The school came in at #2 in Texas on this year’s best master’s degree schools ranking. This large public school is located in Austin, Texas, and it awarded 3,093 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
During the early years of their career, master’s degree graduates from UT Austin make an average of $60,992 a year.
The excellent master’s degree programs at Texas A&M University - College Station helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the best schools in Texas. Located in College Station, Texas, the large public school handed out 3,603 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
The average salary of a graduate with a master’s degree from Texas A&M College Station is $67,437 during the early years of their career.
Out of the 56 master’s degree schools in Texas that were part of this year’s ranking, Southern Methodist University landed the #4 spot on the list. SMU is a private not-for-profit institution located in Dallas, Texas. The school has a fairly large population, and it awarded 1,731 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
During the early years of their career, master’s degree graduates from SMU make an average of $76,382 a year.
A rank of #5 on our Best Master’s Degree in Texas list means Texas Christian University is a great place for students working on their degree. Fort Worth, Texas is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out master’s degrees to 493 students in 2020-2021.
