Our “Most Well Attended ASL Major in the Southwest Region” ranking is one tool we have developed to help in this regard.
In 2020-2021, 2,724 people earned their degree in American Sign Language, making the major the 199th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, American Sign Language graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $32,250 and had an average of $24,208 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southwest region, there were 456 American Sign Language graduates with average earnings and debt of $37,816 and $13,895 respectively.
This year’s “Most Well Attended ASL Major in the Southwest Region” ranking looked at 25 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in American Sign Language. This ranking identifies schools that graduate the most students in American Sign Language.

Out of the 25 schools in the Most Well Attended ASL Major in the Southwest Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Tarrant County College District landed the #2 spot on the list. Located in Fort Worth, Texas, this large public school awarded 88 degrees to qualified ’s ASL students in 2020-2021.
Out of the 25 schools in the Most Well Attended ASL Major in the Southwest Region that were part of this year’s ranking, San Antonio College landed the #3 spot on the list. This fairly large school is located in San Antonio, Texas, and it awarded 22 ’s ASL degrees in 2020-2021.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Collin County Community College District. It ranked #5 on our 2023 Most Well Attended ASL Major in the Southwest Region list. Lamar University ranked #7 on this year’s Most Well Attended ASL Major in the Southwest Region list. Lamar University is a fairly large public school situated in Beaumont, Texas. It awarded 15 ’s ASL degrees in 2020-2021.
The low undergrad student loan default rate of 4.3% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%.
Del Mar College landed the #8 spot on the 2023 Most Well Attended ASL Major in the Southwest Region ranking. Del Mar College is a fairly large public school situated in Corpus Christi, Texas. It awarded 19 ’s ASL degrees in 2020-2021.
University of New Mexico - Main Campus came in at #8 in this year’s edition of the Most Well Attended ASL Major in the Southwest Region ranking. University of New Mexico - Main Campus is a large school located in Albuquerque, New Mexico that handed out 14 ’s ASL degrees in 2020-2021.
Lone Star College System landed the #10 spot on the 2023 Most Well Attended ASL Major in the Southwest Region ranking. Located in The Woodlands, Texas, this large public school awarded 37 diplomas to qualified ’s ASL students in 2020-2021.

University of Houston came in at #11 in this year’s edition of the Most Well Attended ASL Major in the Southwest Region ranking. UH is a public institution located in Houston, Texas. The school has a large population, and it awarded 12 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.
The school has an excellent freshman retention rate of 86%, which means students like the school well enough to return for a second year. The school has an impressive undergrad student loan default rate. It’s only 4.4%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%.
El Paso Community College ranked #12 on this year’s Most Well Attended ASL Major in the Southwest Region list. El Paso Community College is located in El Paso, Texas and, has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 36 ’s ASL degrees to qualified students.
