When it comes to choosing a college, veterans have a lot of options - but not all of them are good. College Factual was founded, in part, to help students make the decision as to what would be the best school for them. Our “Most Veteran Friendly for ASL” ranking is part of that endeavor.
In 2020-2021, 2,724 people earned their degree in American Sign Language, making the major the 199th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, American Sign Language graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $32,250 and had an average of $24,208 in loans still to pay off.
This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly for ASL” ranking looked at 25 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in American Sign Language. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent American Sign Language programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.
When determining these rankings, we looked at things such as overall quality of the American Sign Language program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran satisfaction. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Rochester Institute of Technology. It ranked #1 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly for ASL list. Rochester Institute of Technology is a fairly large private not-for-profit school situated in Rochester, New York. It awarded 38 ’s ASL degrees in 2020-2021.
RIT did well in our major quality rankings, too.
